Affordable seniors housing rentals proposed for transport hub

LONDON: A transport-centric affordable seniors rental housing complex has been planned to abut a train station.

Peregian Beach-based Altum Property Group has lodged applications with Sunshine Coast Council for approval to build the 58-unit complex at Beerwah Parade.

Co-director Alex Rigby said the five-storey development would be a build to rent project with Altum responsible for construction, leasing and body corporate management.

“Housing affordability is a real issue across the Sunshine Coast and Beerwah is no different, there’s lots of locals who are employed but they need accommodation and we feel this model is well suited to the local community,” Mr Rigby said.

“Upon completion residents will have the opportunity to rent a brand new, architecturally designed apartment at an affordable price.

“The upkeep of the landscaping and open space area as well as the pool will be Altum’s responsibility so it’s in our best interests to ensure it always looks great.

“For our residents, it’s a great opportunity to live an affordable, maintenance free lifestyle in the heart of one of the region’s most desirable hinterland towns.”

The project would feature three towers to “minimise bulk” as well as a pool and barbecue area.

Director Rob McCready said he was pleased to secure another major site late last year following the development of Parkridge Noosa.

“We have been actively looking for suitable sites across the Sunshine Coast … and we feel Beerwah is a prime location for our next project,” he said.

“It’s a fantastic site with an easy walk to access the railway and bus connection as well as Beerwah Village, Beerwah Hotel, the local school and employment areas.”

The site fronts Beerwah Pde, Phipps St and Free St and was previously approved for the development of residential care.

Mr McCready said Blackburn Jackson completed the design which was inspired by the nearby Glasshouse Mountains.

Construction of the project is expected to start in September this year.

The company snapped up the high-density zoned site in December 2021 for $2.23m.
