Best retirement housing design for Global Awards shortlisted

LONDON: The shortlist for the best seniors housing design has been declared.

Over 250 designs have been considered by the awards secretariat. One of the finalists in this category is shown above.

Plans for a $107 million six-building urban village on the former City Motors site in the City of Vincent’s Pickle District have been approved.

Developer and owner APPL Group received approval from the Metro Inner-North Joint Development Assessment Panel on November 7 for its proposed Sydney Charles Quarter.

The 22,592sqm at 463-507 Newcastle Street, West Perth, and near Mitchell Freeway currently has some abandoned and operating car yards.

It is also the second-biggest site in Vincent.

The Quarter will have five buildings, including a six-storey office, five-storey building with build-to-rent apartments, gym, small bar, restaurant/cafe, supermarket, medical centre and public art and open spaces.

The existing Old Pickle Factory building will also be retained and refurbished.

A seven-storey hotel with 120 rooms will also be developed, making it the first hotel to be built in Vincent.

It is the first mixed-use development to be approved in line with the newly adopted Pickle District Planning Framework, which lists the former City Motors site as a key development location with a maximum building height of 23 storeys.

The Global Award winner will be announced in November in London. (Globals)
