Boomers go in pursuit of ‘isolated property’ to avoid virus
MELBOURNE: Real estate agents report a lift in enquiry rates for isolated rural properties.
Buyers are keen to swap city life for rural seclusion following the COVID-19 outbreak.
Ray White Rural Tamborine Mountain principal Emma Hawker said interest in one of her Tamborine Mountain properties surged over the weekend with house hunters showing a huge appetite for its isolated location.
“We literally just put 82 acres 20 minutes from the M1 in our advertising and I had 14 enquiries from people asking where it was and to come and see it,” she said.
“I even had a doctor look at it yesterday.”
She said the large land block seemed to be sparking the demand.
“I think people realise a bit of isolation isn’t a bad thing,” she said
“The listing has literally been up for four months and we’ve had enquiries but nothing like what we had over the weekend.”’
The property at 13/905 Main Western Rd features a two-bedroom main residences and a self-contained cabin.
“It’s basically 82 acres of rainforest with beautiful little creeks running through it,” she said.
“You could go bushwalking and honestly never need to leave home.”
Ms Hawker said her agency had adapted to the new real estate regulations announced by Scott Morrison on Tuesday.
“We’re still getting lots of enquiries.
“People don’t want to see the houses physically so we are showing them through with our iPhones.
“We are doing video chats and walking around houses so they can see the property without physically being there.
“We are still encouraging people to list as people will be at home looking at property and looking at what they will want when this is over.”
