Care home visitor pod Facebook post gets 1m views

LONDON: A nursing home’s Facebook post about its visitor pods has attracted more than 1.2m page views.

Jagjit Singh, director of Vicarage Court Care Home in North Featherstone, West Yorkshire, said that visits to the page were going up by 50,000 every hour.

Mr Singh said: “It seems the Facebook post about our visiting booth has touched people who are desperate to visit relatives.

“We have had thousands of positive comments and many care homes nationally are contacting us about it.”

Responding to the lack of physical contact between residents and their relatives, the nursing home has built two visitor pods at the bottom of its lounge that are accessed from outside via French doors. The pods are totally sealed to protect residents with a strict cleaning regime place for visitors. Family visits are arranged for pre-scheduled slots.

The Facebook page has attracted thousands of comments. One visitor posted: “This is a fantastic idea, I’m sure the families and residents will be thrilled at being able to see each other.”

Another commented: “This is brilliant. I used to have to sit outside the care home that my mother in law was in and shout through the window and on a windy day it was useless as she couldn’t hear us. With the weather getting worse it would have been impossible. Well done to whoever decided on this, it will make all the difference. I wish we had had this.”
