Designer W2 campervan big hit with grey nomads

AUCKLAND: The New Zeland-designed Romotow is one chic campervan that you’re unlikely to see parked in a layby any time soon.

The ‘flash drive’ shaped mobile home is packed with novel features. Its party trick involves swivelling on a point to reveal a covered play deck for entertaining.

The campervan was designed by Kiwi architectural and interior design firm W2 and has taken the Christchurch-based company six years to develop.

The Romtow ‘glampervan’ will go on the market in 2020 at a price of $530,000.

For your money you will get room enough for two adults, with a living room and convertible sofa for guests.

Kitchen and bathroom are all incorporated into the carriage for a real ‘home away from home’.

However the caravan is designed with parties in mind. A state-of-the-art sound system is built into the mobile home, a foldaway electric barbecue and finished teak decking for entertaining guests.

For a real party, the outside can be converted into an outdoor sleeping area for up to four more.

As the Romtow is built to demand, it is unclear how many will be manufactured.

However it’s unlikely you will come across many on the road – even in Aotearoa.
