Developer breaks ground today on intergenerational living community

LONDON: A developer has today broken ground on its long proposed intergenerational living community project.

Tabitha Health broke ground on a new intergenerational housing community in Lincoln on Wednesday.

Partnered with Bryan Health, Tabitha Senior Care came up with what it says is a first-of-its-kind assisted living plan in Nebraska and is currently in the works of building the facility.

The housing community will cater to the elderly and students of Bryan Health’s nursing program.

Students and seniors alike are apt to loneliness, making the facility a go-to in the mind of Tabitha President and CEO Christie Hinrichs.

“We conducted a study, and what we learned was not only are older adults very lonely and how deadly that is, but we also learned that students, specifically college-aged students, report very high in loneliness,” she said. “And so our thought is bringing the two generations together creates this intentional neighboring where loneliness is evaded.”

The facility has raised more than $7.5 million in gifts and donations for the project since its announcement in April 2021.

The community is expected to be finished by summer 2023.
