Multi-facility seniors housing proposed for inner city suburb

LONDON: A development application for a multi-facility seniors housing development in an inner city suburb, has been lodged, with designs by Chrofi and MDP Architecture, and landscape by Svalbe and Co and Brendan Moar.

The application for Pathways Cremorne Seniors Housing, located at 50-88 Parraween Street and 59-67 Gerard Street, seeks approval for the construction of a 5-storey residential care facility comprising 41 beds, ancillary service areas, a kitchen and rooftop area, 58 independent living units across two four-storey buildings fronting Parraween Street and an 8-storey building fronting Gerard Street with an on-site ancillary service spaces, café and rooftop area.

Plans show the establishment a two-level basement carpark comprising 134 parking spaces and the establishment of a new public park providing access between Parraween and Gerard Streets.

The vision for the development is to provide retirees with a contemporary and comfortable place to age, with integrated facilities offering support services. The community-centred design responds to issues presented in the Royal Commission into Aged Care Quality and Safety about poor quality of life for seniors by creating an environment that encourages social interaction, promotes an outdoor lifestyle and fosters greater mental health and wellbeing.

The application requests the adaptive reuse of nine existing cottages on Parraween Street and demolition of remaining structures. The new infill buildings would be set back from the street, while the existing cottages would be in the foreground. Both have been designed to complement eachother through the integration of brick references and terracotta coloured touches.
