Multi-generational apartment tower to include men’s shed

LONDON: A multi-generational apartment tower developer is set to include a men’s shed in the project.

A two-storey warehouse will be transformed into a 12-storey residential tower with a ground floor “men’s shed’’ for the Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre.

The City of Melbourne has approved a $26m plan to demolish the warehouse at 69-75 Racecourse Road, North Melbourne, and build the 96-apartment building in its place.

The men’s shed space will be given to the cancer centre for woodwork, support groups, allied health services and social activities for male patients and carers during their time at Peter Mac.

Deputy Lord Mayor Nicholas Reece said the development was in the Arden-Macaulay area, “a key urban renewal precinct for the City of Melbourne’’. He said the 192sq m tenancy fronting Racecourse Road given to the cancer centre was a key factor in a permit being approved.

“The development occupies a prime location on Racecourse Road and will deliver our second Men’s Shed within the City of Melbourne,’’ he said. “The sheds help connect men and improve health and wellbeing.”
