Plan unveiled for tiny home village to help chronically homeless seniors

LONDON: A unique plan has been unfurled for a tiny home village to help chronically homeless seniors.

Elected leaders and homelessness advocates are celebrating a groundbreaking of a new tiny home community for chronically homeless seniors.

The plan is to have enough units to help more than 200 homeless seniors. These are people who have been on the streets for years and this will give them a place to feel safe and get services.

Lots of people turned out for this groundbreaking event on Wednesday, as it almost a party-like atmosphere with live music.

The community is called the Towne Twin Village named after a drive-in theater that used to be on this property on Dietrich Road near Loop 410 and Interstate 10 on the East Side.

The plan is to build 100 tiny homes, 80 apartments and have 25 RV trailers for seniors to live in on over 17 acres. There’s also going to be wrap around services to help these people with their physical and mental health.

“There’s a lot of homeless people and some of us, some people have been on the streets for a long time,” said Arron Green. “I’m just really excited to see people to be able to have their own place and have their own keys so they could be indoors and have somewhere to go other than just out there on the street.”

The Housing First Community Coalition is planning on moving RVs on to the property and have folks living in those units by winter.

It should take a year for the tiny homes and apartments to be built.
