Seniors housing being incorporated within infill projects

LONDON: A seniors housing provision is being incorporated within a series of new infill projects.

An infill project in Shenton Park has been recognised on the national stage as a shining example of how medium-density development should be approached in Perth.

Park Terraces, which comprises 12 architecturally designed terraced homes in the Montario Quarter, won the gong for best small-scale development at the UDIA National Awards for Excellence 2023, held in Perth on March 29.

Two other West Australian developers were recognised nationally, with Rosewood West Perth by Rosewood Care Group winning the award for excellence in seniors living, and Rachel Ezzard honoured as the national young leader for 2023.

The Celsius Developments project focused on creating a sense of community in its design through a shared green space which encouraged residents to interact with their neighbours. It also features a communal entertaining deck, herb garden and large citrus trees.

Eleven of the 12 dwellings have direct access to the central communal garden to encourage its use.

Sustainability was also a priority, with Park Terraces being the first urban infill development in WA to achieve a six-star rating from the Green Building Council of Australia.

“Quality infill development is so critical to Perth’s future growth,” UDIA WA chief executive Tania Steinbeck said.

“It is projects like Park Terraces that are a fantastic demonstration of medium-density infill development done well.”

The national judging panellists noted the developer’s passion for this project was evident in the striking, high-quality aesthetic and the development’s well-executed delivery.

Rising demand for high-quality logistics and industrial spaces fuelled by Perth’s strong economic growth has led global real estate firm JLL to expand its WA team.

It new logistics and industrial sales and leasing team will be led by Matt Brunsdon, who joins the firm after running the industrial asset and property management team for Charter Hall’s WA and SA markets for eight years.

Meanwhile, Brett Mathanda will return to JLL as director after a 12-month stint working for the WA Government, while associate director Chris Monterosso joins the team from CBRE, where he spent five years with a historical focus on the northern corridor.

“Strong local economic fundamentals continue to drive demand for logistics and industrial space, and the team is well positioned to assist our clients to leverage this opportunity through the national platform including market-leading research, occupier and supply chain teams and services,” Mr Brunsdon said.
