Virtual reality hospice helps care workers experience dying

SCARBOROUGH, MAINE: A collaboration between the University of New England and Southern Maine Hospice allows health care workers to experience the process of dying.

A virtual reality simulation allows the user to experience the perspective of a patient in hospice care.

The technology is being used by UNE students and Hospice of Southern Maine to better understand what their patients are going through.

The hope is that the virtual reality experience will improve end-of-life care.
