Delegation to study designer sheltered housing scheme

CHICAGO: A delegation of not-for-profit executives leaves today to study a new designer sheltered housing scheme.

The sheltered housing scheme which will include a rooftop terrace and cinema room has been approved by Liverpool City Council’s planning committee.

West Tree Estates has been given the green light to build 112 one and two-bedroom flats on West Derby Road.

The scheme (pictured), designed by Falconer Chester Hall (FCH), will range in height from two to six storeys – reinstating the “historic massing” along West Derby Road and “revitalising the street scene”.

Croft Housing Association will manage the accommodation, which is aimed at the over 60s.

Facilities will include a communal rooftop terrace, residents’ lounges and a cinema/community room. There will also be 29 parking spaces on site, and all the apartments will be wheelchair adaptable.

Adam Hall, managing director of FCH, says: “This project represents something of a departure for us and we are delighted to have been given the opportunity by West Tree Estates to widen our portfolio with this type of development.

“We have listened to the city council, ward councillors and neighbouring residents to produce a scheme which will work for its intended occupiers and within the context of the locality.”

The development was one of two FCH-designed projects approved by the planning committee yesterday (30 October), the other being the redevelopment of the Municipal Buildings on Dale Street into a four-star hotel.
