New style multigenerational meeting hub design evolves

LONDON: Better design is lifting the usage of multigenerational community meeting hubs.

The construction of a new $1.65 million community hub at Beerwah is estimated to support 11 local jobs.

The Beerwah Community Meeting Place, supported by the State Government’s Unite and Recover Community Stimulus Package, is expected to start construction in late 2020.

Divisional councillor Rick Baberowski said the community had been calling for extra meeting space for years.

He said it was an important facility to service all of the Glass House country townships.

“The facility will be located within the existing Beerwah Community Hub and will adjoin the existing Beerwah Library, facing Peachester Road and the much-loved wetlands,” Cr Baberowski said.

Beerwah Community Meeting Place will feature:

Meeting rooms that can be tailored to suit many purposes
An outdoor meeting room and “green” arcade
A small kitchenette
An integrated link to the existing library

Cr Baberowski said the building and outdoor facilities complemented recent improvements to Turner Park and the Beerwah entry statements.

“(It) will help transform this space into a precinct the whole district can enjoy,” he said.

The building configuration will allow for multiple layout possibilities, ranging from one large communal space to five smaller meeting spaces, through the use of sliding partitions and glazed screens.

This project is one of 18 throughout the Sunshine Coast Regional Council and Noosa Shire Council areas that share in $8.81 million in funding and support more than 680 local jobs.

In a statement, Mayor Mark Jamieson said these projects were designed to give the local economy a “much-needed boost”.

“We are ready to get shovels in the ground as soon as possible to make sure the benefits are delivered to the community sooner,” he said.
