Old hospital now set to become affordable housing for seniors
LONDON: The trend to convert old hospitals into affordable housing for seniors continues to grow unabated.
The City of St. Petersburg is working to create affordable housing for seniors, converting the long-abandoned Ed White Hospital into 71 housing units for families earning 80% or less of the median income.
The project, led by the St. Petersburg Housing Authority, addresses the growing housing affordability crisis faced by seniors, many of whom are unable to afford living in St. Petersburg.
Local leaders emphasize the importance of investing in senior-specific housing, especially as living costs rise.
Construction is expected to last two years, with hopes that the development will help seniors who have contributed to the community throughout their lives.
