LONDON: New multigenerational communities are now being created on downtown regeneration sites above transport hubs.
A major development near Melbourne’s newest underground train station is expected to be approved after winning the support of town planners.
A $105 million plan for almost 400 new homes, a supermarket and shops near Macaulay Station and a short walk from the new Arden Metro Station is being considered by the state government.
It would see mixed-use buildings between six and 12 storeys high built in the heart of the fast-growing precinct that has been pegged for significant future growth.
Two new public laneways would also be constructed and 4 per cent of the 396 dwellings built on the site used for affordable housing.
City of Melbourne planners have urged councillors voting on the proposal at a meeting on Tuesday to support it, subject to conditions.
