Over 200 build-to-rent apartments to be constructed in CBD

LONDON: The latest build-to-rent apartment project is now being pitched to the baby boomer community.

A new 29-storey apartment building is set to be built on Pier Street, bringing 219 new apartments to the Perth CBD.

Of the 219 new apartments, 30% have been allocated to new social rental homes, with 20% to be designated as affordable rental homes, with the goal of providing affordable housing to key workers and vulnerable Western Australians.

“This project ticks all the boxes and will deliver more than 200 new well-located homes for Western Australians,” said Prime Minister Anthony Albanese.

“It will mean key workers can live and work in the same community and provide new homes to Western Australians in need, including older women at risk of homelessness.”

Construction of the apartments is scheduled to commence mid-2024, following an anticipated development approval in late March.

The project, designed by international design studio Hassell, has been developed by DevelopmentWA in partnership with future owners: not-for-profit housing provider Housing Choices Australia and specialist affordable housing fund manager Super Housing Partnerships.

“In partnership with the Federal Government, the Pier Street development is planned to deliver more than 200 new apartments with a mix of social housing, disability housing and affordable rentals through the Build-to-Rent model,” explained Western Australian Housing Minister John Carey.

“Housing Choices Australia and Super Housing Partnerships have been selected as the preferred consortium to purchase the building on completion and to provide tenancy management to support the most vulnerable members of the community.”

Funding for the project is via $88.6 million from the Federal Government’s National Housing Infrastructure Facility, with the State Government contributing over $40.6 million.

“This important project will also see the development of a new urban community close to major public transport hubs and local amenities – bringing more activity, vibrancy and importantly more housing diversity right here in Perth.”
