Retirement housing where every apartment is unique design

LONDON: A retirement housing developer has created sixteen apartments all of which are unique.

Dog-friendly gardens, libraries, cellars and guest wings are not your usual apartment fare.

But with 16 units and no duplicate designs, the Pillar+Tide project in Brighton is no cookie-cutter build.

Two homes at the Fortis project have sold and there are negotiations under way for the $5.5m penthouse.

Tomassi & Co director Alby Tomassi said Carr architects’ design had attracted inquiry from as far as Sydney.

Most buyers were impressed by the size and variety of the project, which will feature a punched masonry facade highlighted with bladed columns, and metal and stone feature elements.

“Many are looking for that ‘city’ residence where they can spend half their time when they are not at their country or beachside property,” Mr Tomassi said.

Ground-level homes feature easy-care, dog-friendly gardens and direct street access. Some apartments will zone second and third bedrooms into a guest wing, others will offer a full laundry or a bar. Libraries are on the list in others, as are wine cellars.

Features in common include built-in barbecues, six-star NatHERS energy efficiency, electric car charging provisions, fireplaces, a butler’s pantry, a Vintec wine fridge, and Miele appliances.

Natural stone surfaces, oak floorboards and 3m to 3.25m-high ceilings will make the most of copious natural light, while flush doorways with no trip hazards blur the line between inside and out.

The build is due to be completed by mid 2022.
